The Sting Man - by Robert W. Greene

Book Review, © Copyright 1998, Jim Loy

Remember Abscam? This book has been around a while (since 1981). It's very good. Abscam was an FBI sting, in which a fictitious, rich arab (Abdul) wanted several things: asylum in the USA, to invest money in the USA, to get help in getting his money out of his country, and other things. The huge amount of money involved brought out the crooks who wanted to cheat this man, crooks who wanted to help him cheat his own country, and congressmen who wanted to help this man (for big bucks). Quite a few people went to jail.

This book tells two, interconnected stories: the story of Abscam, and the story of super con man Melvin Weinberg, who made Abscam work. Both stories are amazing, and sometimes very funny.
