Dr. Dewdney wrote the "Mathematical Recreations" column in Scientific American for several years. He is the author of several entertaining books. This book is about innumeracy (the illiteracy of numbers) and the abuse of numbers. The title of the book comes from an ad which said that a certain light bulb could save you 200% on energy consumption. This is impossible unless extra energy was being pumped out of the light bulb.
This book is very entertaining. It tells of many strange, but true stories. Dr. Dewdney seems to be a kind of hotline for tales of math abuse. Read the book, and become a Math Abuse Detective.
