Eragon - by Christopher Paolini

Book Review, © Copyright 2003, Jim Loy

This is book one of the eventual Inheritance trilogy. In some ways, it is a typical quest fantasy. Eragon is a boy who discovers dragon's egg (that was a mystery for a few pages, sorry to give that away), and his life will never be the same, as the forces of good and evil compete for his loyalty and soul (and sword). And there's a map, and Eragon goes all over the map like a pinball (sorry, destroyed the mood there). This story is definitely better than most quest fantasies, the story is great, the story telling is mostly great (sometimes a character or two seemed too modern), and it'll be a trilogy (can't beat that). And Mr. Paolini was 15 years old when he began writing Eragon. He is now mature, at 19. I can't wait for more of his books.
