I started browsing this book, in a book store. And, I couldn't put it down. So I bought it.
In the book, we find out why the Egyptian pyramid at Meidum collapsed and why the bent pyramid is bent. We find out why the Empire State Building did not fall down after being struck by a B-25 bomber in 1945. Redundancy is the key here. No one verticle beam was vital to support the building. We find out that the Leaning Tower of Pisa was never straight, and may never fall down. We find out why (and we are mystified as to why) some domes collapse, and others do not. We examine the collapses of Kemper Arena, elevated freeways in San Francisco, bridges, dams, the walkways of the Hyatt Regency in Kansas City Missouri.
Here are fascinating stories of disasters.
