the curious incident of the dog in the night-time - by Mark Haddon

Book Review, © Copyright 2004, Jim Loy

Christopher is an autistic boy who is a genius at mathematics, and who is afraid of people and who hates the color yellow (he really likes the color red). He also likes Sherlock Holmes, and he has encountered a genuine mystery; his neighbor's dog has been murdered with a gardening fork. So, he tries to solve the curious incident of the dog in the night-time, and he encounters resistance from the adults who he interviews or is arrested by. And he discovers some important things about his own family. Get to know this delightful, and exasperating young man, and gain some insight into autism.

Recently, there have been a few good books about similar mental conditions (compulsions and obsessions). See The Pleasure of My Company - by Steve Martin (not for children) and Multiple Choice - by Janet Tashjian.
