The Island of Lost Maps - by Miles Harvey

Book Review, © Copyright 2001, Jim Loy

This is the story of Gilbert Bland, thief of maps. In a massive crime spree, he visited the rare books collections of libraries across America, and cut out thousands of maps, with a razor blade. He then sold these maps to collectors, until he was brought to justice by the FBI and a librarian. This fascinating book also digresses into the history of maps, and the history of the theft of maps.
