Killing Pablo - by Mark Bowden

Book Review, © Copyright 2001, Jim Loy

This is the story of Pablo Escobar, drug "kingpin," murderer, head of a crime family, and hero (benefactor) to thousands of people in the Medellin region in Colombia. And this is the story of how he was gunned down by Los Pepes death squad, or was he gunned down by U.S. drug agents? Did it have to be done? It would seem that capture and trial (if it ever came to a trial) would have been an international disaster. And so, murder was the clean solution, and continues to be the clean solution in similar cases. Food for thought.
