More and more systems are using an End Signal. This device was invented by the Polish players Lukasz Slawinski and Andrzej Orlow. Usually, the End Signal is a bid of 4D by Relayer, forcing partner to bid 4H, after which Relayer can sign off in the appropriate game or slam. The Scanian System uses a 4C End Signal. I'm not sure why an End Signal is necessary. Apparently some natural bidding (without signing off) is an alternative.
