In 1937, Willie Ryan and Newell W. Banks played two matches for the World Blindfold Checkers Championship. Ryan won the first one. Banks won the second one. Then the NCA declared that neither match had been for any official championship, and declared Banks the World Champion of this form of checkers. There has never been any other match for this title. This game was game #9 of their second match.
