$uper Deal$ In Checker$
Looking for a good deal? Well, you've come to the right place. Here are
a few:
- American Checker
Federation membership. Only $25 for one year (membership starts in January
and ends in December). Membership entitles you to play in ACF tournaments and
mail play events (tournaments and ladders), and gives you a subscription to
The ACF Bulletin. The Bulletin is published every other month,
and contains checkers news (tournament announcements, tournament news, mail
play info...), mail play info, and the annotated games of a recent National
Tournament (The 38th and 39th Nationals were completed in the December 1996
issue). British
Draughts Federation has a similar deal.
- I-D Booklets. If you are an ACF Mail
player, the I-D Booklets are the main source of the current analysis of the
tough openings. ACF has them back to 1990 for $5 each. The 1996 edition will be
out soon.
- PC Solutions
gives away a demo version of their strong Windows program, Sage 8.2. Or get the
DOS program Blitz Draughts 5.4 from them.
- Microsoft Gaming Zone. I
haven't tried it, but you can play checkers (and bridge, chess, go, hearts,
spades, reversi), on the Internet, for free. There are many other servers.
Please let me know if I've missed any great deals.
- The Missouri Checker Association Newsletter is excellent. Membership
is $10 per year. Send to Missouri Checker Association, 8505 S. Karr, Grain
Valley, MO 64029.
