Co-Orbital Moons

© Copyright 2003, Jim Loy

This is an animation of a pair of co-orbital moons, as we see going around Saturn. The two moons move in almost identical orbits, and most of the time do not affect each other. But when they are very close, they pull each other into slightly different orbits, and begin to move apart, seeming to repel each other.

Please enable Java for an interactive construction (with Cinderella).

The above Java animation was created with Cinderella (a geometry program).
