See Sine Wave. Here the blue wave comes from the right and hits the black wall on the left. The yellow wave is the reflection of the blue wave. The real situation is the sum of these two waves, which is a standing wave in green. This standing wave does not move left or right, but merely oscillates up and down. Parts of it remain motionless in all directions.
