I have three indoor thermometers, all guaranteed accurate, and all disagree with each other (within about 3 or 4 degrees). I would assume that a guarantee of accuracy would say just how accurate they should be, like plus or minus two degrees or something like that. No such luck, the literature that came with these thermometers says nothing about how accurate they are. So the guarantee is apparently worthless.
I have two digital medical thermometers, for placing under my tongue. These two are guaranteed accurate, with no clue just how accurate. I use the first one (from Polymedica Healthcare) for over a year, and got very low temperatures, always below 98 degrees. I didn't use it very often. But after a while, I grew concerned about my health, because of this. Then I notice that the thermometer showed a low temperature, even when my forehead was hot. So, I quit using the thermometer. I recently got another one, of a different brand. And the two thermometers differ by 0.9 degrees. That is a huge difference. So, apparently my body temperature has been near normal all this time.
I have two bathroom scales, both of which are guaranteed accurate. The differ by a few degrees from each other, of course the mechanical one is adjustable, so that's all right. But the digital one is not adjustable. And it differs (by up to 5 or 6 pounds) from other scales around town, including the balance beam ones that my doctor uses.
I'm sure glad these things are guaranteed accurate.
