Quite a few years ago, I received a letter from Exxon. They said that their computer had canceled my Exxon credit card. Apparently, no human beings were involved in the decision.
I am fairly careless about paying bills. Often, I forget, or I write the check and forget to mail it. I always pay, eventually. But, some people get upset about it. This time, a computer got upset.
I paid my bill, and humbly asked them to reinstate me. This was immediately after the Exxon Valdez oil spill. And I figured that they should be happy to regain a customer who would accept them. I didn't tell them that, of course. Anyway, they never responded.
It's depressing, not being up to Exxon's standards.
