This is my latest (9/7/97) email to Sierra Online:
Howdy, I may put the following on my WWW pages, as I am dissatisfied with the handling of my problem:
Over a year ago, I bought a program called "The Even More Incredible Machine," at Hastings Video. It looked like a good game. Well, I accidentally bought the MAC version. When I took it back, they pointed out their software return policy. They wouldn't take any software back, unless it was to be replaced by the same product. Well, they didn't have a DOS or Windows version. So I was out of luck.
Well, I boxed up the program and sent it to Sierra Online, the makers of the program. I figured that they can't be as unfriendly as Hastings.
Sierra Online sent me a letter saying that in order to get a replacement program, I had to send them the sales slip. I thought I already had. I have never found that sales slip.
Well, I eventually sent them email saying, if they don't have the sales slip, then it probably had been thrown in the trash.
I haven't heard from them. They still have my MAC version, which is depreciating, or maybe they've melted it down by now.
I vowed never to shop at Hastings and never to buy a Sierra Online product. Well, apparently my vows are easily broken, because I continue to shop at Hastings, where I nod every time they ask, "are you aware of our software return policy?" And I see that an embarrassingly large percentage of my CD games are from Sierra Online. Oh well.
The program probably cost me over $50. Now, it's probably worth less than $10.
The above email was apparently routed to technical support. They told me that I had to send my complaint by mail. So I have sent them another letter. So far, there has been no response.
It is now 1999, and still no response. I see the program, in stores, for $9.99 (or so). And, I see that I have not bought any Sierra Online product, for over a year and a half.
It is now 2001, and I haven't bought any Sierra Online product for quite a few years. They probably have no idea what they did with my Mac CD.
