Sorry about the above. That is a banner that I got from the Dilbert archives. I hate that kind of obnoxious ad. Here is one from the Pearls Before Swine archives:

I wouldn't accept a free DVD player from these folks, if there were no strings attached. Regular banners aren't so bad. I don't want them on my pages, but I can't blame people for cashing in on the advertising dollar. That is the only way that many sites can survive. But a flashing banner is way too distracting (in case you didn't notice).
And then there are banners which tell you to click here, because you have three email messages. That is a lie; it is only an ad, and clicking here will only load their WWW page. Or they will show a shaking box that says that your computer is running slowly because you need more memory; that too is a lie. It could be true, but it is only an ad.
Another thing that bothers me a lot, is when I visit a WWW site, and another window loads on top of the page that I want to see. These too are ads, but some of them take so long to load that I have logged out before I could see them.
And then there are Cookies. I visit the Dilbert archives, and the banner tries to put a cookie on my computer. This is not the Dilbert people trying to write a cookie, this is their advertiser. They are probably just checking to see which page I was looking at (and counting visitors), so they will know that Dilbert is a big money maker. But I don't like cookies, especially ones from sites that I never visited and never would visit.

Here are a couple more. By the way, these are always flashing (or shaking), so you're not particularly lucky to see these obnoxious images. Sorry, you can't win anything on my site.
