Some Common Expressions
© Copyright 2002, Jim Loy
On the left, we see a few common ideomatic
Egyptian expression. You will see some of these over and over again, in
inscriptions. My dictionary shows many more.
- We wish someone (the king) "life, prosperity, and health."
- "Overseer" is a very common title.
- The king is "like Ra." Notice that "Ra" precedes "like."
- "Given life" often follows the name of a king, often followed by
some version of "forever."
- We may "praise" any of the gods.
