At least one WWW site makes an interesting mistake (I forget which site).
The first sign of the Egyptian alphabet is
(roughly
pronounced a). Instead, that site gave
as the first sign. Both signs are vultures, believe it or not. The first is
The Egyptian Vulture, and the second is
another, more typical looking, species of vulture (It looks like a turkey
vulture (buzzard), but the turkey vulture is an American species). The second
sign is phonetic, being pronounced nr (or mwt in a
few words), but is not an alphabetic sign.
