If you've read much of my WWW pages, you may get the idea that I'm not very humble. Sometimes, I think my motto is "I hate to brag, but..." Actually, I experience enough failures and embarrassments to stay reasonably humble. There's a song that says "It's hard to be humble, when you're perfect in every way." Well, it's easy to be humble. Let me give you an example.
One day, a few years ago, I was walking downtown. It was a sunny winter day, and I had the hood of my coat down. As I walked under a tree, a large clump of snow fell from the tree, and went down my neck. I was upset.
Later, on the way back home, I put my hood up, as it was now colder. As I walked under the same tree, a large clump of snow fell out of the tree and fell right in front of my face. I looked up. And a large clump of snow fell right in my face.
I had been out-smarted by a tree. As I walked away, I imagined that I heard faint laughter.
