According to Inside Gaming Montana a few months ago, casino workers in Helena, Montana were upset by the ban on smoking in public places. The article implied that Helena casinos were losing a lot of business, and were in danger. It would seem that gamblers who smoke were mostly driving to East Helena, a few miles down the road, where they could smoke and gamble to their hearts content. Inside Gaming Montana was encouraging casino workers to campaign to reverse the smoking ban.
I had never heard of a connection between gambling and smoking. They are both addictions; I suppose they may actually be related. But it seems to me that if you ban smoking, you should attract plenty of non-smoking customers, many of whom were previously staying away because of the smoke. But maybe I'm wrong.
