Genuine Replica Rolex Watches?

© Copyright 2004, Jim Loy

I got email entitled "Super replica Rolex & LV available worldwide." Replica World (nobody knows where their offices are) sells this watch for an amazing $239, or do they? Rolex may sell it for maybe $10,000; their WWW site is uninformative; they do not sell over the Internet. You can get it used (pre-owned), for less than $5,000. How can Replica World offer for $239?

Do you know the meaning of the word "replica?" In this case, it is a polite word for "fake." The watch you see on the left may be a genuine Rolex, or it may not. Notice that the picture is a doctored grayscale image. But the watch you will get from Replica World will not be genuine, and it will probably be a piece of junk, worth nowhere near $239. And Replica World is breaking the law if they put the Rolex name and trademark on this piece of junk. If you bought one of these watches, you are probably out of luck.

I see that the Online Replica Store has the same watch for $200! If you read their text, it becomes obvious that these watches are not the real things. But they really are breaking the law, if they put the word Rolex on a watch, and imitate the Rolex trademark.

In most such email, the link redirects to the Online Replica Store. One of these emails had this subject: Pre-owned Rolex Watches. This would seem to be an outright lie.
