My Favorite Recipe: Bacon and Eggs and Coca Cola

© Copyright 1997, Jim Loy

I'm not much of a cook. I joke that I use my smoke alarm to time my cooking. In fact, my smoke alarm did go off three days in a row, because of my cooking. But, there are a couple of things that I cook fairly well. One of these is Bacon and Eggs. I would like to share my favorite recipe with you, Bacon and Eggs and Coca Cola. The Coca Cola is served separately, preferably in a can. Try it. It's great. If you're not very smart, you can substitute Pepsi for the Coke. Nowadays, Coke is more highly carbonated, and that seems to be the secret to my recipe. Turkey bacon works well, but you have to turn it over more often, because it sticks to the frying pan.

Another of my specialties, Chile Flavored Ramen. Take your favorite brand of Oriental Flavored Ramen (other flavors compete with the chile flavor), and add Chile Powder to your tastes (adding crushed hot peppers if you prefer). Experiment with varying amounts of chile powder, from barely noticeable to over-powering.

Another favorite, add two or three slices of American Cheese (other kinds of cheese may work) to your favorite brand of Red Beans and Rice (I choose Rice-A-Roni), before it comes to a boil. I think that it is a great improvement. You will find a cheese film on top, when it starts to cool. Just stir this in. All sorts of soups can benefit from melting cheese into them.
