When I Moved Into My Apartment

© Copyright 1999, Jim Loy

When I was moving my stuff in to this apartment, I often heard a single squeeking sound. I thought that it was a squeeking floorboard. But, I couldn't duplicate it, by walking all over the hallway, which is where I heard it. Just when I would forget about it, it would squeek again. That night, I was lying in bed, and I heard the squeek again, obviously out in the hall.

The next day, I tracked it down to my smoke alarm. The battery was about dead. It beeps, to let you know that it is nearly dead. I suspect that whoever lived here previously took the good battery with him/her, and inserted a nearly dead battery into the smoke alarm. Is that a strange thing to do? Well, he/she also took the toilet paper dispenser, unscrewing it from the sink cabinet. And he/she took the shower curtains (Is that normal?) and the soap dish from the bath tub. Also, there were no light bulbs in the walk-in closets. He/she probably took those, too.

Is that something that people do? When I moved into an apartment, many years ago, there was no plug for the bathtub. My roommate bought one. And, when he left, he took the plug with him.
