These WWW Pages Will Be A Book

© Copyright 1998, Jim Loy

I have decided to turn these WWW pages into a book (several books, actually, as there are a couple of checkers books, and an Egyptian hieroglyphic dictionary in the works). Why would I do that, besides my rapidly expanding ego? There are a number of reasons:

  1. Some of these pages are fairly interesting. For example, see my article on Phlogiston Theory, of which I am very proud. There are other items of some interest. Most of these would work just as well in a book, as they do on the WWW.
  2. I'm going to write a few articles about the WWW, and about my pages in particular, for people who do not have access to the WWW, and maybe do not even have a computer. These articles may seem fairly ridiculous, when published on the Internet, because everyone who sees them will be using a computer. But, they may work fine in a book.
  3. My reading of the copyright laws (See About Copyrights) informs me that all of these articles and stories must be sent to the Library Of Congress, with the appropriate forms. It will be easier to do that if they are in the form of a book. I suppose I should still send them in, in the form of WWW pages, though.
  4. It is incentive to sharpen up my facts. Some of my research has been sound. Some of it has been superficial. Some of the superficial research has been sharpened up, by readers' email, but not all of it.
  5. It is incentive to correct minor mistakes. Already, it has motivated me to correct the spelling in over half my articles and stories. I never had an HTML editor with a spell checker, until now.

So, you may eventually see my WWW pages in a book store, or dumpster, near you.

Addendum:

I have thought of a title for my book: Click Here, To Read This Book. A previous idea for the title was Jim's Book. Do you notice the improvement?

I have enough material for a fairly thick book, now. I just need to get moving on it.
