A Bizarre Crime

© Copyright 1997, Jim Loy

I think I remember a bizzare crime, on one of those TV true police programs. Police found a burned up car. In the driver's seat was a dead body. On the floor, in the back, was a driver's licence. A check of the plates showed that the car belonged to the owner of the driver's licence. A check of the finger prints of the dead body, showed that it wasn't the owner of the car. The body was that of a man who had been buried a while before. A check of the cemetary showed that someone had dug him up. A local policeman gave up on the case, claiming that it was too strange for him to figure out. Who committed the crime?

The policeman just flunked Sherlock Holmes 101. This crime is as simple as they get, just because it is so bizzare. The owner of the car is guilty. He was trying to fake his own death, for whatever reason. He probably thought that the body would burn up beyond all recognition. The owner of the car was soon found, and went to jail, for what? For grave robbing. He flunked Moriarty 101.
