I recently rewatched the movie, The Year Of Living Dangerously. And the most memorable melody in the movie, the electronic tune that is playing while Mel Gibson and Sigorny Weaver are driving dangerously in the night, was not given its complete credit, in the movie's credits.
The soundtrack, for this movie, was written by Academy Award winner, Maurice Jarré, who wrote the soundtrack for Dr. Zhivago (and many other movies). But, he did not write the theme which I'm commenting about here. That theme is listed in the credits as Opera Sauvage, from the movie Opera Sauvage, with no clue who the composer was. That theme was written by Vangelis, a very popular composer and performer of electronic music (who composed the soundtrack for Chariots Of Fire). The title of the piece is apparently L'enfant. It is not on The Year Of Living Dangerously sound track album. It is on the Vangelis album, Themes, which I highly recommend. L'enfant is on other Vangelis albums.
It is slightly ironic that Maurice Jarré's son, Jean Michel, is also a very popular composer of electronic music.
Addendum:
Three people have written asking what operatic piece Billy was listening to on his record player a couple of times in the movie. It was apparently Richard Strauss's Four Last Songs for Soprano and Orchestra, performed by Kiri Takanawa. I didn't notice which orchestra it was.
