Ms. Tan collects toy pianos. And serious composers write music for her and her toy (delightfully out of tune) pianos. And she arranges a few classics, to go with this new music. There is something totally serious about this music. And there is something totally wacky about it, too. For example, there is a piece, East Broadway by Julia Wolfe, which is scored for toy piano and toy boombox (which goes ch-ch-chshshsh-ch-ch-chshshsh... or something like that). This is a fun recording.
