the left, we see a famous photo of a sandal which has apparently crushed a
trilobite (arrow). In 1968, William Meister split this rock in two, and found
several trilobites, and (surprisingly) a human sandal print, complete with a
slightly raised heel.
Is this amazing evidence that humans and trilobites coexisted at the same time? Or is it simply a foot-shaped rock with trilobites inside? Obviously, this is not a sandal print (with the actual sandal made of shale on the right perhaps?) but a foot-shaped rock. Anyone who has ever dug up rocks (including Mr. Meister, I am sure) has seen many surprisingly foot-shaped rocks, even with raised heels when the rock fractured at right angles to the flat layers of sedimentary rocks. Plenty of creationists admit that this is a "doubtful" sandal print.
But, I was actually surprised to find (in a search of the Internet) that many, many people still do claim that this is a sandal print, and that it shoots down evolution and the entire structure of science as taught in our schools. Amazing! Humans seem to believe whatever they want to believe.
