In my opinion, ice hockey is one of the great spectator sports. But, I quit watching a few years ago, partly because of a disgusting phenomenon called "swallowing the whistle." This is when the referee quits calling penalties, and the game gets disgustingly violent. The referees mainly do this in two situations, near the end of a game, especially in overtime, and in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Referees have said that they don't want to be responsible for a win or a loss. Actually, the idiot who was in the penalty box while the opposing team scored the winning goal is the person responsible for the loss.
I don't get cable, is another reason that I don't watch hockey. Actually, I watch about 2 or 3 games a year, during my pool league.
