I have heard the above complaint (without the question mark) from several people. And, watching them play doubles, I can see why they say it. They are baseline players, even in doubles.
Real doubles is serve and volley. You seize the net and win the point (most of the time). Serving is a huge advantage, because your partner is already at the net. Just get the serve in. Take something off your first serve, get it in, don't try for that ace. Double faulting is a crime.
For me, doubles tennis is an aerobic exercise. I get to the net every point, unless the opponent double faulted or aced me. If they lob me back to the baseline, I will be at the net again during this point. I've been to the net three or four times in one point, on rare occasions. And I have become healthy enough to get my breath back after such a point. I have had the pleasure of having sweat drip from the bill of my cap. I have gone through a gallon and a half of water in one match. Many of my opponents don't even bring water to a match (It's some kind of macho dehydration test), but they do interrupt the match to go to the drinking fountain. Dehydration is not healthy, by the way.
You can't get any exercise playing doubles tennis? Then you don't know how to play doubles tennis.
